East Leeds Family Learning Workers Team
Job Description:
Working across a cluster of schools in the East Leeds communities. Each Family Learning Worker is based within 1 or 2 primary schools, working with parents and families’ to increase and improve their capacity, self esteem and confidence. They engage hard to reach parents in their own and their children’s learning, working in partnership with school based staff to support parents in taking responsibility for their own and their learning.

I started as Contract Manager for the Learning Zone, an LSC funded programme which offered training and qualifications to improve skills of local residents in the most deprived areas of East & South Leeds. I’m now responsible for the delivery of two contracts; A2E (Access to Employment) and NRF Job Zone. Our A2E programme ‘New Opportunities’ is for lone parents and has been running since April 2008 and will finish March 2010. It supports lone parents who are claiming benefits, in their first steps towards work or training. It is funded through Yorkshire Forward and managed by Leeds City Council. NRF Job Zone has been running successfully since 2007 and delivers training opportunities, job searches, ESOL classes as well as first step engagement opportunities to low-skilled or unemployed residents living in the Neighbourhood Renewal Wards, primarily those within East & South Leeds. This programme is funded by Leeds City Council and ends March 2010. “
