Millenium Volunteers
Millennium Volunteers (MV) was a UK wide scheme for 16–24 year olds designed to help and support young people to develop their skills and experiences through a wide range of volunteering opportunities. The national programme ended in March 2008.
From April 2007 – March 2008 fifty-two young people on the Learning Partnerships MV project contributed 2592 hours of volunteering supporting a wide range of Voluntary, Community, Faith and public sector organisations across Leeds. Learning Partnerships MV project specialised in supporting young people who were Not Engaged in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and young people with additional needs.
Highlights during the last ever year of MV included a celebration trip to Alton Towers, an outward bounds residential, and a youth led (and the last ever!) MV Leeds Celebration and Awards event, held at the Brudenell Social Club.
"More people should do it – the experience you get, yes you're not getting paid but you're doing something good with your skills and time. Everybody's got something they can put towards volunteering." Danny, aged 20
