Extended Services

The work of our Extended Services Team supports schools in responding to The Children's Act through Extended Services and The Every Child Matters Agenda. The Children's Act encourages schools to extend beyond the campus and the school day to provide co-ordinated services for children and their families locally.

Our extended services project supports schools in providing access to the Core Offer of Extended Services including high-quality childcare, a varied menu of activities beyond the school day, parenting support, swift and easy access to a wide range of specialist services and providing wider community access to ICT, sports, arts facilities and the school buildings.

The aim is to bring together all those involved in working with families within a Cluster area, to facilitate communication, signposting and co-ordinate projects to help and support families. Cluster partners include schools, children's centres, Education Leeds, the Health Authority, Social Care, Early Years and representatives from the Voluntary, Faith and Community sectors.

We have three Cluster Co-ordinators:
  • One working in the South of the City, Beeston Hill and Holbeck, covering 7 primary schools, 2 children's centres and South Leeds High school;
  • One in the Inner East, Burmantofts and Lincoln Green covering 5 primary schools and Primrose High School
  • And a third co-ordinator also working in the Inner East, covering the Gipton and Harehills cluster covering 6 primary schools

All co-ordinators link closely with a wide range of community services and agencies.

The Cluster Co-ordinators work closely with our team of Family Learning Workers who are facilitating and delivering a variety of activities for parents in the cluster schools including coffee mornings, STEPS, ICT courses, ESOL classes, well being sessions and other accredited and non– accredited courses.

Part of the role of the cluster co-ordinators is to establish links with key partners and agencies who are able to help with providing services and activities that support the delivery of the Extended Services Core Offer.
